A Career Retreat at the Ranch: Clarity, Coaching, and Cows
Inside the Experience of a Coaching Retreat: Life on the Farm, Growth in the Soul
When I first imagined life on the ranch, it was a “Little House on the Prairie” porch sweeping, pie baking and growing our own food version of rural life—minus the cumbersome full coverage dresses and with better countertops.
What I did not picture was hauling squealing piglets in a crate across the mountains. Or figuring out how to store two dozen jars of pickled green beans after realizing I may have, in fact, planted too many. Or debating with Matthew about what to do when the donkeys figured out how to open the feed room door. (The lessons never end)
The truth is, I didn’t come to this life with a background in farming, gardening, or canning. I didn’t grow up spending summers at the stables. My idea of “fresh food” used to be whatever we brought home from the supermarket that day.
But something about this land—this wide open sky, this soil—made me want to learn how to live my life differently. Slowly. intentionally. And eventually, joyfully.
Because what started as a romantic idea about growing tomatoes turned into something much deeper: a parallel journey of growing myself. And now, it’s a core part of what makes The Immersion so powerful.
When Growth Gets Personal
Out here, we grow food…but we also nurture intentionality. We remember what it feels like to pay attention.
When clients arrive at CC Blue ranch for their Immersion, they’re often standing in that strange in-between time and place: when something is ending, and something else is about to begin. When they’re trying to make sense of what’s coming next. But they’re not quite sure what that is—or how to get there.
So we pay attention to that time and place, and we focus in on what really matters.
We walk the garden, we gather herbs (typically a lot of rosemary), and we sit on the porch and sip coffee (or tea) while the San Juan mountains shift in the morning light. In between our conversations and the quiet of the farm, something inside begins to shift—we begin to hear the voice that’s been buried under noise.
Clarity comes from tuning in. And there’s something about the rhythm of life on the farm that makes it easier to do just that.
Lessons from the Land
I've learned more about coaching from tomatoes and cows than I ever expected.
Tomatoes taught me that timing is everything. You can’t force a fruit to ripen before it's ready—and the same goes for people figuring out what’s next.
Cows taught me the importance of presence. They move slowly, and they listen with their whole bodies. And also, cows don’t bother chasing what’s not meant for them.
Most new chapters in life don’t start with clarity and confidence; they start with curiosity and a good dose of concern (maybe even a bit of fear).
You Don’t Have to Know Everything to Begin
If you’re reading this and thinking, “Well, I’ve never gardened. I’ve never canned. I’m not a ‘ranch kind of person’”—you’re in good company. I wasn’t either.
But just like you don’t need to be a homesteader to enjoy a fresh peach from your own tree, you don’t need to have all the answers before you step into your next chapter. You just need to want something more aligned. More nourishing. More you.
And if that’s where you are, I’d love to welcome you here—to the land, to the porch, to the garden, and most importantly, to yourself.
Let’s grow something good together.
The Immersion is the Start of Your Nxt
What is the Immersion, you ask? It’s a personal, one-on-one experience—just you and me—where we untangle what’s no longer working in your life, explore what could be next for you, and create the space for something meaningful to take root.
At the Immersion, deep conversations happen beside the greenhouse, and clarity shows up between bites of just-picked tomatoes. And finally, the Immersion is a place to embrace personal reinvention.
If you’ve been wondering whether this is your moment to begin again—to grow something new from the inside out—The Immersion might be the place to start.
