Behind the Scenes of a Career Retreat at the Ranch
People often ask me, “So what actually happens during an Immersion?”
They’ve seen the photos of Colorado’s sweeping mountain views, the cozy moments on the porch, and maybe even a shot of Charlie and Finn (our two resident ranch dogs) making themselves right at home next to a guest on the couch. But what they really want to know is:
What is this experience really like?
What happens during a few days at a private ranch that makes it so transformative?
The short answer: It’s part executive coaching, part soul-searching, part strategy session... and completely unlike anything you’ve ever done.
If you’re looking for a career retreat that goes far beyond brushing up your résumé or revamping your LinkedIn profile—the Immersion is for you. It is a catalyst for change. Here’s a look behind the scenes.
Day 1: Welcome, Settle In, and Start Unpacking (Your Bags and Your Mind)
Whether clients fly into Montrose, Colorado, or take the scenic route by car, I greet them personally when they arrive. First impressions matter…and so does slowing down.
Guests settle into their private accommodations at Studio C, a peaceful and beautifully appointed guest house on the property. After a bit of time to decompress, they take a short stroll to the Main House, where they’re welcomed with snacks, a warm hello from Matthew (my everything partner and culinary mastermind), and, most likely, a wagging tail or two.
We head upstairs to my cozy office to kick things off. This first conversation is big. It’s where we start identifying the Blockers that may be standing in the way of what’s next—career confusion, burnout, doubt, or the feeling that something’s off even if everything looks “fine” on paper.
From there, we set a framework for our time together: exploring Work, Relationships, and Lifestyle. These three pillars are critical when you’re considering real change.
The evening wraps with casual drinks and dinner at the Main House. This part always surprises people. There’s so much laughter, real connection, and conversation that flows naturally. By the end of dinner, most clients feel more like old friends than guests.
Day 2: Deep Dive into Work, Worth, and What’s Next
We start with breakfast—sometimes healthy, sometimes indulgent, always delicious (thanks, Matthew).
Then it’s time to dig in. We head back into the office and revisit the exercises I’ve asked clients to reflect on overnight. These are designed to surface how you really work best—when you’re most alive, most effective, most yourself.
We talk. We whiteboard. We laugh. Sometimes there are tears. That’s normal. It’s a safe space to be honest, not perform.
After a lunch break (yes, Matthew again), we usually take a quick walk or visit the barn to stretch our legs and get some fresh air. The mountains are humbling in the best possible way.
The afternoon is devoted to diving into relationships and lifestyle—how you want to live, who you want around you, and what that looks like day-to-day. This part is always eye-opening. People come thinking they want a career change and realize what they’re really craving is a life realignment.
We wrap up with another shared meal, either prepared at the Ranch or at one of the surprisingly delightful fine dining spots in nearby Ridgway.
Day 3: The Plan Forward
The final day is an amalgamation of days one and two. Morning might begin with a solo walk or quiet journaling time. Then, over breakfast, we revisit the insights that have emerged.
By now, things are clearer. You’ve named what matters. You’ve challenged old assumptions. You’ve envisioned something new.
We spend our final hours together creating a clear plan of action—something tangible you can take home and work on immediately.
These goodbyes are always bittersweet. Clients leave energized, focused, and excited…but no one really wants to leave the Ranch. And I don’t blame them!
So, What Is The Immersion, Really?
It’s not just a career retreat.
It’s a reset for your whole life.
It’s coaching, reflection, and connection in a setting that feels both luxurious and grounding.
It’s a rare chance to stop spinning your wheels and start designing what’s next with intention.
And yes, there’s always a little pampering, a few surprises, and a whole lot of care.
Because you’re not just making a professional pivot. You’re building a future that feels fully aligned—with your head, your heart, and your gut.
