Circling Back on all the AI Stuff
I wanted to circle back with you on the AI situation I shared a couple of weeks ago.
I want to let you know what WE have accomplished together.
I want to share what I have learned from all of this.
And, I want to let you know what I plan to do Nxt.
How you have helped...
With your help, We have successfully launched a 1-star review campaign to shine a light on the fraudulent AI-generated books that used my name and my book to create two poorly written items that totally misrepresented the content of my original book: Finding Your Nxt, When you’re Ready for the Life You Really Want.
With over 40 1-star reviews on the Workbook and more than 35 on the “novel,” we have successfully created enough of a “warning” to potential buyers to alert them that the book is unauthorized; generated by AI and how should I say this?...crap THANK YOU!!!
Apparently, Amazon has taken notice of the review activity and has done two things to stop it.
They are restricting all reviews to “Amazon Verified Purchasers” (which means you have to buy the book to review it) and
Interestingly enough, they have flagged many of your reviews as not meeting “community guidelines.”
Amazon seems more concerned with restricting the reviews than looking at the content of the reviews to determine if the product should be taken down or not.
All of this has taught me...
I’m not alone and it’s OK to ask for help. So thank you.
This is happening to others. Authors, musicians, entertainers, artists – anyone who is creating content and putting it out into the world is open to their material being taken in for training AI, and to possible reproduction and recreation of their material for profit by others. Great advancements require great personal awareness, and I’ve learned I have to pay attention to new technologies instead of sitting back and assuming they won’t have an effect on my life. I still believe in, and am excited about, the vast awesomeness that AI can contribute to our world but I’ve realized these advancements are happening at record speed now, and the cause and effects of these changes can impact our lives in ways I never imagined. So I can’t be complacent about my ideas of what’s right and wrong, and I must be willing to hold my hand up when seeing our norms and rules of behavior being trampled upon.
What’s Nxt?
I’ve hired a lawyer and I now know that in order to get Amazon to take the books down, I need to provide proof that my book is properly registered and has a copyright. Thanks to my book publishing team, I in fact did all of that. BUT...it takes time to receive your copyright number in the mail and so once that arrives, we will lodge the formal complaint with Amazon to have the books removed (and we’re also sending out cease and desist letters to the publishers).
I want to make sure that we continue to raise awareness that this is happening. So please don’t hesitate to use my situation as an example of this negative side of AI when discussing AI with anyone...at any time. Please share at will.
I think I might actually keep the Workbook up on Amazon for a time to use it as an example of a 1-Star campaign strategy for other authors to use to stop any financial gain to others if this happens to them. I think we have started something here!
Just so you know - I’ve got my Nxt writing projects brewing in my head so please don’t worry about me and don’t think this is going to turn me off, discourage me, or stop me from moving onto my Nxt.
